University of Manitoba Vascular Plant Herbarium tour
Tuesday December 12, 2017. 1 PM.
The Vascular Plant Herbarium of the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Manitoba (WIN) houses the largest collection of plants from Manitoba, over 80,000 specimens including a reference seed library (winherbarium.weebly.com). The Curator, Bruce Ford, will present an overview of the herbarium’s research and outreach program, followed by a tour of the collection and demonstration of its on-line specimen database (canadensys.net).

Featuring exhibits that integrate natural and human history, the Manitoba Museum is one of the top tourist destinations in Winnipeg. On this unique tour with the Museum’s Curator of Botany Dr. Diana Robson, you will go to areas seldom seen by other visitors, including the natural history collections room and botany lab. In addition to learning about current botanical research and resources, participants will go on an exclusive tour of the galleries to learn more about how the life-like dioramas were created. After the tour participants will be free to spend additional time in the galleries.
Fee: $28 per adult, $25 per student, tax included. Please sign up during registration.
